2. Eligibility
- The applicant must be an undergraduate student of US citizen or US permanent resident.
- High school graduates who have been accepted at an undergraduate institution but who have not yet started their undergraduate study are also eligible to participate.
- Applicants should have at least completed data structures or computer algorithms classes or their equivalence.
- Applicants should be proficient in a programming language.
- Women, minorities and two-year college students are particularly encouraged to apply.
3. Commitment
Selected students must:
- participate in the REU site projects for a ten weeks period. This commitment means that all student participants will live on the Texas State University campus and will work full time on the research projects for the entire duration of the program;
- attend all weekly meetings, discussions, field trips, and seminars;
- complete all REU program surveys;
- and give oral/poster presentations of the work performed.
4. Confidentiality
Your application information will be reviewed by the PIs and senior personnel of this REU site. Any information about your application is completely maintained in the applicants’ data pool of this REU site and will not be disclosed to any entity outside of this REU site. An evaluator will compile aggregate application information for assessment and reporting purposes to the National Science Foundation. Such information may be used in future publications as well to describe the demographic information of this REU Site. All reports or publications will ensure the anonymity of the applicants and participants.

5. Benefits
- A total of $6000 stipend ($600 per week for 10 weeks)

6. Application Materials
- A filled application (link provided in section 7 below).
- A two-page resume.
- University transcripts (unofficial ones are acceptable in the application, but official ones will be requested upon selection).
- An up to 5000 characters personal statement (describing why you would like to join this REU Site).
- One reference letter. Note: the reference letter will be submitted directly by your referee. Although the application form provides the option for two references, only one reference is mandatory.
